This is a weird substack subject, but I have had some people ask for it, so here goes…
One thing that I have noticed in the last few years is that my diet is a huge factor in how I look and feel; way more than the fitness aspect. A few days of “splurging” that I would have done in my 30’s now takes weeks to come back from in my late 40’s.
I am not about total restriction, I think you need to have balance. If you are craving dessert, go for it. If you want to eat pasta, treat yourself. Don’t deny yourself pizza if it is something you love! There has to be balance, and you need to live your life. But, what I have found personally is that I can’t eat that way all of the time. I can’t even splurge on the weekends like I could 10 years ago.
Maintaining a healthy diet in your 40’s takes a lot of work, prep, buying good quality, and focusing on whole foods as much as possible.
I threw my scale away a few years ago because I felt like it was counter-productive. We can fluctuate 5 lbs in just days, depending on the time of our cycle. So, to protect my mental health, the scale went goodbye.
We can always tell how our clothes fit, so I use that as my guide.
