It feels a little crazy that I am now at the age where my friends’ children and my nieces are going through rush. After having 3 nieces at SEC schools, I have felt the second-hand stress of what that might look like as a mom one day. And, as a ZTA from IU (class of 99) alum, I am also very aware of how crazy and stressful the process can be!

I “met” Lorie, also known as “Greekchicnyc” on TikTok virtually when I fell down the rabbit hole of Bama-Rushtok. I loved watching her videos and seeing her perspective on navigating recruitment in the digital age. It is no joke for these girls! We became virtual friends, and I have enjoyed getting to know her from across the country.

Lorie has built an incredible business as a sorority consultant, with clients ranging from the SEC to the Midwest. She is truly an EXPERT in this area, so I enlisted her to give some great advice for Moms (and daughters) who are about to embark on this journey come fall!

How did you become a Sorority Consultant? I was volunteering as the Rush Advisor for the Chi Omega chapter at DePaul University in Chicago back in 2012-2014. That’s where I learned that A LOT had changed about the recruitment process. Like, for example, it’s called Recruitment and not Rush. And they’re called Potential New Members and not Rushees. But more importantly, a lot of my sorority sisters were calling me and asking for help. They knew I was still involved with Chi Omega as a Recruitment Advisor and they had a daughter or a stepdaughter going through recruitment, and had no idea how to help them and needed advice on the process. My husband, who was not Greek in college, overheard these conversations and suggested I turn it into a business. But truth be told, this is something I secretly always wanted to do ever since I graduated from college. I did some research online and decided that I was going to put together a website. Lo and behold, I had my first client in 2013 from St. Louis, MO, who was going to TCU. The rest is history!
