If you aren’t wearing your clothes repeatedly, you are doing it wrong.
I made the mistake in my 20’s and 30’s buying a ridiculous amount of fast fashion. I would (regrettably) buy something new for every dinner or night out. It was excessive!
I feel like this is the norm these days. With Amazon, Shein, Commense, Edikted, H&M, and Zara, there is so much at our fingertips that we can just click and buy. Most of us don’t second-guess a $20-$50 purchase.
Seeing the amount of clothing I donated, gave away, or sold was pretty disgusting. I had more clothing than I could ever wear. I knew I needed to make a change in my shopping habits.
Just in the last 8 years, I have tried to make a concerted effort to shop my closet instead. Trust me, I have plenty to work with. I would say each season I have some inspiration or looks that I want to try to recreate, and I will hunt those items down. I don’t really “shop” unless I need something. This is usually for a vacation, or an event. I would say that is my weakness. I love fresh new looks for a trip. And each season I will sprinkle in a little trend or color, but I have found those are the items that get a few wears and will most likely get donated. My focus is quality, timeless, versatile, beautiful clothing that makes me feel great.
This exercise has taught me to be a smarter and better shopper. I find so much more joy in getting dressed knowing I have everything I need in my closet. I know this goes against the grain of most “influencers” telling you to buy, buy, buy. When I share, be it here or on my social platforms, I hope it inspires you to shop your closet. I also love to share pieces that I have found to be valuable in my wardrobe!
So, here are my most recent repeat offenders. And I know, it’s not exciting fashion. But, being a basic bitch is ok too :) It’s the high-quality basics you WILL reach for. Trust me!
