Emotions are at an all-time high.
I am seeing my friends terribly distraught, worried, and sad. I am also seeing friends shouting hallelujah, and breathing a sigh of relief with the presidential decision.
I am not here to share my political opinions with you. I am not here to tell you how you should feel. I think that everyone SHOULD feel their respective emotions. There is no right and there is no wrong.
What I am hoping to encourage everyone to do, is not spread hate or division more than we are already experiencing in this country.
This is a time to listen to your family, your friend, and your neighbor.
We need to acknowledge and respect how everyone is feeling.
I have seen people cut family and friends out of their lives because of their voting decisions.
I have seen influencers attacked and in turn, have mass exodus because of their political opinions.
I recognize that everyone is passionate about their chosen candidate. However, whichever side you support does not fully capture or define each person's character.
This post by Dr. Becky hit home for me.
This says it all for me. Our children are watching our EVERY move.
We need to do better, and we need to be better for our kids.
I don’t know what will happen next, but I am trying to be optimistic.
I will continue to have conversations and listen to my friends and family.
We may not all agree on the choice for our next president. However, we can hopefully come together as Americans and pray that the new administration implements positive changes for our country.
Sending love this week to all who are hurting,
xoxo,
Melanie
Yes, it might be. Differences in basic policy strategy is one thing, but a conscious choice to elect a racist, xenophobic, misogynistic liar to the highest office in the land is another. Many people, especially those in marginalized communities, do not feel safe in their communities or sadly, in their own families right now. People considered friends and family members voted against women's rights, trans rights, climate change, immigrant's rights, Palestine, and Ukraine. These are not casual or cavalier "agree to disagree" issues. There will be very real consequences to the people in our closest community circles, some of which we're already seeing with draconian abortion and women's healthcare bans.
