I have been sharing content through my writing and on social media for 15 years, first via my blog and then Instagram. This was long before commission links, gifting, and brand partnerships.
It is interesting to see how social media and “influencing” has evolved over the years. The one trend I have noticed in the last two years is the insane push of uber-affordable, low-quality fashion. You can thank Amazon for that! And now, TikTok shop is pushing the same thing. Creators that utilize these tools are making hand-over-fist endorsing these products. Most people don’t question a $20-$50 purchase. The click-to-buy ratio on a $20 item is much higher than on a $200 item.
Listen, I have no hate for a budget-friendly purchase. I love finding a bargain and sharing it with you all. Mixing high and low is my jam. I always appreciate and will continue to share a good Target, Zara or Commense find. But those items are not what I want to fill my closet with. They fill in the gaps here and there. I also am very picky about fabric and quality, so even if it is inexpensive, I will not buy it, wear it, or share with you all unless I think it’s worth it. High or low, I am not buying ANYTHING unless I love it. I want to wear my clothes…a lot! It’s better for our wallets AND our planet.
