The pressure of Christmas gets to me. I have a constant dialogue of “Am I doing enough? Will the kids remember this? Am I making their Christmas magical?” constantly running through my head.
This week I have been in a total funk. Today I was driving to get Christmas garland and ribbon, and I felt completely NUMB. With 2 weeks to Christmas, I should be feeling joyful and festive! I am feeling the complete opposite. Is this normal?!
I am sure there is a Dad out there who is carrying his weight, but let’s be honest. Moms do the MOST during the holidays. We decorate, buy, and wrap the gifts, bake, and organize gifts for everyone else (family, teachers, employees, etc). We buy Secret Santa gifts for parties or ornaments for ornament exchanges. We coordinate photo shoots for Christmas cards, and then print, address, and mail the Christmas cards. We plan festive outings for our kids to make the season BRIGHT!
Add in the everyday work load, cooking, cleaning, and normal kids activities. It’s A LOT, and it’s overwhelming.
So, what do we do to try to enjoy this time, while still getting everything done? I have tried to simplify a bit. When I stick to this game plan, I feel much better and less frazzled.
