I debated what to title this article. But as of late, I keep hearing of tumultuous midlife friendships.

It made me think a lot about adult friendships, and how rare it is to find true friends. Real keepers that will be in your life for the long haul.

I do think that when you hit 40, so much changes. When your kids surpass 4th or 5th grade, for some reason the friend group starts to shrink. Maybe it is because there are fewer playdates, your kids activities ramp up, and there is less time to socialize. I also think that you start to crave more intimate gatherings over large group things. Or maybe that’s just me, or possibly that was a result of covid. I find I get so much more out of when there are just a few friends over big group events I did 5-10 years ago.
